“Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.”
Philippians 4:17
As Monroe County Safe Families enters this season of fundraising, we are constantly reminded of Paul’s words to the church at Philippi. According to Philippians 4:15, the Philippian church was the first church that financially partnered with him as he sought to spread the gospel. They sent him “help for [his] needs once and again” (Phil. 4:16).
Right now, we are seeking to spread the gospel to families in crisis in our community by providing a safe and loving home for their children. We have seen time and again how important this work is. But just like Paul, our ministry relies on the support of churches and individuals.
As we reach out to people, we are not seeking the financial gift, but instead we “seek the fruit that increases to your credit” (Phil. 4:17) Giving to a Christ-centered ministry is a “sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God” (Phil. 4:18). So today we are reminded that when people give to Monroe County Safe Families for Children they are like the church at Philippi – God is pleased and his promise holds true that he will “supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).
